Free school travel, guidance and Local Authority contacts.

Eligibility

You may be entitled to free travel to and from school if you:

  • are under 8 years old and live more than 2 miles from your nearest qualifying school
  • are aged 8-16 years old and live more than 3 miles from nearest qualifying school.

Your child may qualify for free travel if they are eligible for free school meals or if the parents receives their maximum level of Working Tax Credit. This is only a guideline though. You need to check with your Local Authority who can give you advice on your individual situation.

WYCA asses and renews free travel applications only for residents who live in the Leeds or Bradford Council areas. For residents in Calderdale, Kirklees or Wakefield Council areas, please contact those councils directly to make a new application or to renew an existing application.

If you would like further information regarding help with travel costs, a paper copy of one of the application forms or a paper copy of the current policy, please call the Education Transport Assessment Team on 0113 3481121.

Bradford Council area - renewals for September 2019

If you wish to renew an existing 2018-19 zero fare Boarding Pass or School Pass for September 2019, the process to follow depends upon the criteria of your award.

Distance award - you do not need to do anything as we will take care of your renewal automatically. However, if you have since moved house or changed schools, you must make a new application using the links above.

Low means award, free school meals - you do not need to do anything. We will check if your child still qualifies and if they do, we will automatically renew the pass for September. If not, we will write to you with further details.

Low means award, working tax credits - you do not need to do anything, we will write to you regarding this.
