Appeals

[The following is NOT to be used for statutory zero fare appeals - if you live in Bradford or Leeds council areas, please see your decision letter or, if you live in Calderdale, Kirklees or Wakefield council areas, refer to those authorities for details.]


Unsuccessful application for a place on a school service/request to swap services

You can appeal against an unsuccessful application for a place on a school bus, or make a request to swap to another service.

Before you submit your appeal, please read our Guidelines for the provision of School Transport which contains information regarding our pupil allocation criteria and read the further information section below which gives details regarding common types of appeal and how we address them.

Submit your appeal by completing the online appeal form. Please note, we receive a very high volume of appeals and we will do our very best to respond to you as soon as possible.

Further information regarding appeals

Buses at full capacity: we can only issue as many passes as there is capacity on the vehicle. In conjunction with the bus operating companies, we frequently monitor passenger levels and if it becomes evident in the future that a service is consistently operating below capacity, we will issue further passes (based on our pupil allocation criteria). We will only respond to your appeal if and when capacity becomes available.

Appealing based on medical grounds: evidence must be submitted to us if you wish to appeal based on medical grounds. Complete the form using the link above and additionally, send any evidence such as a doctor's statement via email to educationcustomerservices@westyorks-ca.gov.uk quoting your appeal reference number in the subject line.

Swapping services due to bullying or misbehaviour concerns: again, we can only swap if there is capacity on the requested service. Our prefered course of action is to remove those causing the issue rather than swap pupils between services. Complete the online form using the link above and additionally ask your school to contact us regarding the bullying or misbehaviour issues.

Swapping services for other reasons: we can only swap if the service you wish to swap to has sufficient capacity. Complete the appeal form using the link above. If we are able to swap services, you will be required to return your existing pass to us before we can issue you with another.
