Help completing online forms

If you're experiencing problems completing your online renewal or appeal form, you may find a solution within these common queries listed below.

Can you confirm receipt of my application?

Sorry, but due to the huge number of queries we receive on this topic, we cannot confirm receipt of applications by telephone.

If you have completed a paper application, we suggest posting it to us using a service such as Recorded Delivery.

For the online forms, provided you reached the end page with the application reference number, this means we have received your application. If you exited the application at any stage before that, we did not receive the application.

I haven't received my confirmation email.

If you have reached the very end of the application and you have seen the reference number on screen but still no email was received, don't worry, your application reached us anyway.

Otherwise, try checking your email provider's 'junk' or 'spam' folders. Your confirmation email comes from an address with @noreply in the url and some providers treat this as spam, especially corporate work addresses. Try waiting up to 24 hours as sometimes the servers can be busy and delay sending the email until a quieter time. Consider if you have spelled your email address correctly.

Again, due to the high number of calls on this topic, we cannot confirm receipt of applications by telephone.

Postcodes and addresses

This does not perform any kind of automatic check against your postcode. The postcode field is, however, formatted to only accept a standard UK format postcode with or without a space between the two halves.

Acceptable examples: LS12DE or LS1 2DE

Not acceptable: LS1DE, WF9 89TY

The whole address must be typed out in full. To prevent only a house number being typed into the address field without the rest of the address, the field expects at least 5 characters.

Telephone numbers

Numbers must be in the standard 11 digit UK landline or mobile phone number format starting with a 0 and with a space between the code and the number sections, as per OFCOM standards. Numbers beginning +44 or with no leading 0 are not acceptable.

Acceptable examples: 0113 3481122, 07777 123456.

Not acceptable: 011334 81122, +44777 123456, 01133481122, 113 3481122.

Names

This must be the full name. To prevent first name only submissions, the field expects at least two words. The hypen (-) and apostrophe (') are acceptable. Other symbols such as & + / or  _ are not acceptable.

Acceptable examples: Jack Smith, Mary-Anne Jones, David Wilson-Smith, John D'arcy, Mary and John Smith.

Not acceptable: Jack, Mary & John Smith, Mary_Anne.

School, bus route and bus stop numbers

Carefully scroll down the menu to your school and select the correct route number listed alongside. If your school and route is not shown, then either there is no service to that school or a pass/registration is not required.

For primary schools only, also enter the bus stop number you wish to board and alight at. If you do not know this, the number is written on the bus stop flag, on timetable cases at bus stops and on bus shelters. All numbers begin 450 followed by five digits.

Google also has bus stop number data on its street map.

I am using a mobile phone/tablet and some of the fields/buttons don't show correctly.

The form is written in javascript and some browsers on mobile phones in particular have javascript disabled or restricted.

If you know how, try using another mobile browser or change your browser's settings - Chrome on Android seems to work okay, whilst the built in browser on Apple devices seems to cause the most problems. Otherwise, try using a full desktop or laptop PC.

I've tried everything and it still won't work!

If all else fails, complete the alternative paper form. Provided it is still received within any deadlines, this is just as acceptable. Remember we cannot confirm receipt of paper forms due to the high number of queries so please use a service such as Recorded Delivery if you require confirmation.
