Update from MCard following updated COVID-19 guidelines

1 October 2020

Following the updated guidance from the government on 22 September, we have an update on our COVID-19 extension/cancellation policy.

Monthly MCards

If you have a valid monthly MCard and contract coronavirus or you are forced to self-isolate due to close recent contact with someone who has coronavirus, you may be able to reclaim your lost travel. Simply take the unused card to a Travel Centre when you are ready to start travelling again, along with evidence of your requirement to isolate, which can be a letter/email from school, college, work or text/email from NHS test and trace . The Travel Centre can check the card has not been used and re-load any unused travel onto your card. You must claim your extension within two months of the expiry date of your unused ticket.

Please note, if you have purchased your ticket on a Pink MCard, please make sure that you have registered your MCard before you visit the Travel Centre otherwise Travel Centre staff will not be able to see your travel journeys and process your extension. If you ordered your Pink MCard online it will already be pre-registered.

If you no longer wish to travel, you may claim a refund at your local Travel Centre. Please note that refunds are not calculated on a pro-rata basis. Refunds are calculated by deducting full priced weekly/daily tickets, that would have been used, from the discounted purchase price, in line with terms and conditions.

In the short-term, we recommend that you consider moving from purchasing longer term tickets to buying our weekly and daily products as guidance continues to change.

Annual MCards

Following lockdown in March 2020, we launched an extension/cancellation scheme for Annual MCard holders. The scheme enabled holders to pause their card from 17 March and re-start it up to 31 December 2020, subject to the card not being used during that period. Customers could also cancel their card if they wished and a refund would be back-dated to the announcement of lockdown, subject to the card not being used.

If you have already extended your Annual MCard and no longer need to travel following the updated guidelines, you can claim a refund for the remaining value on the card. Please note that refunds are not calculated on a pro-rata basis. Refunds are calculated by deducting full priced weekly/monthly tickets, that would have been used, from the discounted purchase price, in line with terms and conditions. You can request a cancellation by filling in our webform that is available here.

For those who have not applied for either an extension or refund to date, you still have up to 31 December 2020 to apply.

As the cost of an Annual MCard represents approximately a three-month discount on the purchase price of alternative products, we will not be able to offer further extensions if you are required to self-isolate for a period of time.

The West Yorkshire Ticketing Company Ltd. (owner of MCard) will be reviewing the scheme in November as guidance continues to change. Keep checking the website for updates.
