MetroCard switchover

1 September 2016

From Monday 5 September, paper MetroCards will no longer be sold at rail stations.

WYCA are replacing the paper MetroCard with daily, weekly, monthly or annual smart MCards.

The smart-enabled MCards will now be issued instead of the paper-based tickets. Pink MCards are weekly or monthly travel cards available for adults. The StudentPlus MetroCard will be replaced by the Green MCard for 16-25 / Students.

You can top up at bus station travel centres, rail station ticket machines and over 700 Payzone outlets in West Yorkshire.

If you have a paper MetroCard, it will be valid until its expiry date, but all renewals and replacements will be MCards from now on.

The only paper tickets that will still be sold are:

  • MetroDay, available on the bus when you board.
  • DayRover, including scratch-off tickets.
  • MetroRover for jobseekers.
  • Residential and Pool MetroCards.
