Have your say on the plans for a new Morley Transport Hub

29 July 2016

Consultation underway on proposals to improve bus services in Morley.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority's plans for the Morley's new transport hub would mean improved interchange between bus services and better pedestrian access for bus users in the town centre. The new hub will also provide a better road layout for buses and other vehicles.

To achieve these objectives, the proposals include:

  • improvements to crossing points and waiting areas for pedestrians;
  • locating all bus stops on one side of Queen Street or Albion Street;
  • making Queen Street one way from Queensway to Wellington Street;
  • making Wellington Street one way from Queen Street, reversing the existing flow;
  • relocating on-street parking to one side of Queen Street and Wellington Street

There will also be a ‘drop in’ event at which people will be able to examine scheme plans, talk to the team working on the scheme and provide feedback through a questionnaire. It will take place at Morley Town Hall (Alexandra Hall), between 3pm and 6pm on Thursday 18 August.

Cllr Keith Wakefield, Chair of West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Committee said: “Transport underpins the economy and local business and the Combined Authority is committed to ensuring its public transport facilities provide passengers with a comfortable, attractive and safe environment.

“I would urge people who use public transport in Morley to go along to the drop in event and take part in the consultation about the future of transport in their town.”

Leeds City Council's lead member for city development Cllr Neil Dawson said: "Improving the transport network and making it as integrated and effective as possible is a key priority across the whole city, so I would encourage everyone to get involved with this consultation on the Morley public transport hub and have their say as part of that process.”

The scheme will be developed in further detail after the public consultation, which ends on Friday 9 September, has taken place. These proposals complement an earlier scheme which involved the installation of better signage between Morley town centre and the town’s rail station. A separate scheme involving improvements between Morley Town Hall and Morrisons is also being developed.
