Consultation and Engagement

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) is constantly seeking to improve the bus network and is always interested in hearing from passengers.

Over 80% of bus services in West Yorkshire are provided by private bus companies on a commercial, ‘for profit’ basis. This includes most of the frequent services along core routes into major towns and cities. The remainder of services are supported by public funds provided by WYCA. This money supports many early morning, rural, evening and Sunday services on routes which are necessary to passengers, but which private companies do not consider profitable enough to run.

Like most public bodies, we have limited funds and need to ensure that money is spent in the most effective way. We aim to:

  • Work in partnership with bus operators to ensure the West Yorkshire bus network meets current and future needs.
  • Ensure value for money for the subsidy WYCA provides to the network.

Your opinions matter and we want your help to develop the future of the bus network. We endeavour to consult with the public whenever major changes are made to the services that we support. Details of current consultations can be found below.
