Metro, in partnership with Network Rail, has been given
the go-ahead by the Department for Transport to develop a new
pedestrian entrance for Leeds Rail Station, called Leeds Station
Southern Entrance (LSSE).
Situated over the River Aire, to the south of the station
complex, the new £14.2m entrance - funded by the Department
for Transport, Metro and Network Rail - will give direct access to
and from the station to the river and canal-side areas around
Granary Wharf and Water Lane.
Metro is holding three exhibition events for passengers, local
residents and businesses, to be held on:
- Monday 5 December from 6:30am until 10am at Leeds Rail
Station
- Tuesday 6 December from 4pm until 7pm at Leeds Rail
Station
- Wednesday 14 December from 2pm until 7pm at Mint Hotel, Granary
Wharf
Metro staff will be on-hand to answer questions about the new
station entrance proposals at all three events.
Anyone unable to attend can still have their say by visiting
www.wymetro.com/lsse and completing the on-line questionnaire; by
emailing lsse@wypte.gov.uk; or by writing to Leeds Station Southern
Entrance, Metro, 40-50 Wellington Street, Leeds, LS1 2DE.
Construction is due to start in summer 2013 and the new entrance
is expected to open in summer 2014.
