Metro Chairman Cllr Chris Greaves carried out the official opening of the new £2.5m Pudsey Bus Station on Monday 29 November.
Unveiling a commemorative plaque, Cllr Greaves paid tribute to the goodwill and cooperation between Metro, local ward members, town management and local businesses who worked together to enable Pudsey Bus Station to be built. And also the high-quality service provided by the contractors and consultants who worked on the project.
'Central focus'
“Metro’s bus station provide a central focus for bus services in our towns and cities, as places where passengers can catch and interchange between buses in a safe, comfortable, environment and with access to up-to-the-minute travel information,” said Cllr Greaves.
“Pudsey Bus Station replaces what was basically three old bus shelters at the front of Market Place, with a modern fully-accessible facility with an enclosed waiting area, real-time departure displays, and 24-hour monitored CCTV,” he continued.
“It means local bus passengers can enjoy a facility that is in line with Metro's other modern bus stations, which have won awards for their striking design and role in bringing people into town centres “
Councillor Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council’s Executive Member responsible for Transport, said: "This new bus station provides a welcome improvement to the quality of facilities available to bus users in Pudsey which I am sure will encourage more people to consider choosing the bus for their journeys in the future."
