When Girlguiding UK needed transport to move 5,000 of their members to Yorkshire attractions from their Centenary Camp at Harewood last week they turned to Metro, and hired 35 of its yellow Mybus school buses.

CT Plus, which runs some of the Mybus fleet on Metro’s behalf, organised all the buses to arrive at Harewood on Sunday morning in time for a 12.30 departure.

Although, in term time, the 150 Mybuses are used mornings and evenings for journeys to and from school, they are also available to youth groups to hire in the holidays and during the school day.

"While Mybuses are popular for hire through term time and the holidays, this is the first time we have had 35 hired at once,” said Metro's Mybus call centre supervisor, Matt Jordan. “With 5,000 guides to look after at the camp the organisers will certainly have a job on their hands so I am glad Metro has been able to help out with safe and comfortable transport.

"When they go out on trips they’ll be travelling in style and at the end of the day, they’ll have no trouble spotting their bus in the car park,” he added.

Professional service

Girlguiding PR Officer, Helen Dye said “We have been extremely impressed with the professional service provided by Metro and CT Plus staff and their efficiency in transporting our girls to their activities.”

Built to transport young people, Metro’s Mybuses are low floor and wheelchair accessible, and are fitted with seatbelts and CCTV. They are hired and used for trips by schools, sports teams and other organisations, and are usually available for hire Monday to Friday from 9.30am-2pm (during term time), after 5pm, at weekends and during school holidays.

Andrew Hammond, Regional Manager CT Plus said “It has been a challenging exercise because of changing schedules, but we were delighted to be able to accommodate the request and support Girl Guiding UK in the celebration of their 100th anniversary.”

Anyone wanting to hire a Mybus for their youth group or school can download an application form from generationM website or call the Mybus hotline on 0113 348 1122
