Over 8 million texts have now been sent to Metro's
yournextbus service by people wanting real-time information about
their bus.
Introduced in September 2005, the satellite-linked 'yournextbus'
system provides passengers all over West Yorkshire with real-time
information about when the next buses are due to arrive at their
stop.
All you have to do is text the eight-digit number starting 450-
on their bus stop, to 63876 (which spells METRO on the keypad). You
then get a reply text within about 30 seconds which will tell you
the times for the next few buses from that stop.
There are also shelter displays at almost 1,000 of the county's
bus stops. All of Metro's major bus stations also have real-time
departure boards.
WAP users can visit Metro's mobile site and there
is a link to yournextbus on the right-hand side of this and every
page of this web site.
"Passengers have told us that yournextbus makes them more likely
to use the bus because the up-to-the-minute information it provides
gives them more control of their time and their journey," said
Metro Chairman Cllr Chris Greaves.
"Metro is committed to keeping passengers informed about their
journeys and yournextbus is just one of the ways we do it," he
continued.
