Metro is supplying three of its yellow 'My bus' buses
to provide West Yorkshire pupils with free travel to Leeds Rhinos
home games as part of the Foundation's 'Day to Remember'
initiative.
One-hundred and fifty young people will be enjoying the same
levels of comforts and safety experienced by the 6,500-plus pupils
who travel to and from school with 'My bus' every day.
'Day to Remember' involves Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Tykes
Community Development teams visiting selected schools and giving
150 free tickets for each Leeds Rhinos home games, It is organised
by the Leeds Rugby Foundation, a registered charity of which Metro
has just become a member.
To celebrate
the beginning of Metro's partnership with Leeds Rugby foundation, a
class of Year 5 pupils from St Theresa's Primary School in Leeds
were this week invited to spend a morning with the Rhinos. The
lucky youngsters travelled to Headingley Carnegie stadium on one of
Metro's 'My bus' yellow buses, watched the first team
training, went on a behind-the-scenes tour and visited the Rhinos'
training ground in Kirkstall. During the day they also received
advice on sport and health and met some of their heroes from the
team.
"We look forward to working with the Foundation to provide the
opportunity for children who may previously have been unable to
travel to attend games," said Metro Chairman Councillor Stanley
King.
"The core values of 'My bus' closely match those of the
Foundation in promoting healthy and sustainable lifestyle choices,
and I am delighted that we have been able to use our 'My
bus' vehicles to provide even more benefits for these young
people."
"Leeds Rugby Foundation is set up to support youngsters
throughout the county to become more active and lead healthier
lifestyles," said Chris Rostron, General Manager of Leeds Rugby
foundation.
"The 'Day to Remember' project offers some of the
thousands of youngsters who have been part of the Leeds Rhinos'
community programme the opportunity to attend a Leeds Rhinos home
fixture and experience live Super League," Mr Rostron
continued.
"Without the kind support of our sponsors Berry's and 'My
bus' this positive and worthwhile experience would not be
possible."
