Trolleybuses are similar to conventional diesel buses with one major difference – they are powered by electricity from overhead wires similar to those used for a tram system.
Trolleybuses have significant environmental benefits compared to conventional diesel buses due to the lack of polluting emissions and also in terms of lower noise levels. A further benefit of Trolleybuses is their ability to accelerate and decelerate more smoothly than diesel buses which improves the ride quality for passengers.
Examples of electric trolleybus systems:
- Arnhem, Holland
- Solingen, Germany
- Edmonton & Vancouver, Canada
- Riga, Latvia
- Geneva, Switzerland
