The Aire Valley Employment Area in Leeds (AVL) is a major regeneration Initiative in East Leeds that has the potential to be one of the most significant sources of employment opportunity in the region. The regeneration area covers 1,000 hectares, 400 hectares of which is land that is identified for development. It is estimated that AVL could ultimately accommodate 30,000 additional jobs if an appropriate public transport solution is developed.

Transport links to, from and within AVL are a key issue in ensuring the success of this regeneration initiative. Metro are leading the work into the potential opportunities for providing a rapid transit link to AVL. This involves considering the scope for an initial segregated bus based solution which could then be upgraded to a more sophisticated technology as the area develops.
