Bus Rapid Transit

More information about Bus Rapid Transit

11 July 2007

In recent years several vehicle manufacturers have developed high specification buses which aim to replicate the image of a tram as closely as possible. These operate in the same way as standard buses however there is potential to produce hybrid models which operate using a combination of diesel and electrical power. Bus Rapid Transit modes can provide increased benefits if combined with some degree of segregation from other traffic.

Examples of Bus Rapid Transit:

  • Civis Vehicle operating in Las Vegas, USA
  • First "ftr" vehicle due to enter operation in Leeds and York in 2006
