  • New Pudsey Bus Station work begins

Artist's impression of how the new Pudsey Bus Station will look. Work on Metro's new bus station for Pudsey is underway.

Due to be completed by September 2010, the new Pudsey Bus Station will provide higher levels of comfort and security that passengers have come to expect from Metro's facilities across West Yorkshire. It will be fully accessible, will include an enclosed waiting area together with real-time electronic information and CCTV which will be monitored 24 hours a day.

To minimise inconvenience, the £3m project will be carried out in three stages.

Chair of the Area Committee Cllr David Blackburn, Pudsey ward councillor Richard Lewis, Metro's Leeds Spokesperson, Cllr Colin Campbell and Pudsey councillor Mick Coulson.During Stage 1 bus services will not be affected and buses will continue to depart from the existing bus station and from existing stops in Church Lane. The short stay car park in Market Place is closed but alternative parking remains available behind the Leisure Centre.

Stage 2 of the work starts in the New Year, at which point the existing bus station stands P1, P2 and P3 will be closed for redevelopment and bus services will use the new temporary bus stops T1 and T2 in Market Place and T3 in Church Lane. Bus services will continue to use P4 and P5 in Church Lane as normal.

During Stage 3 work will be carried out on the highway and footpaths in Market Place and Church Lane.
