Passenger numbers on MetroLocal service ML5, which connects Salendine Nook, Lindley, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Birchencliffe, have grown by over 70% since a high-level, local campaign to improve patronage began at the end of July.
Developed by Metro and Kirklees Council, with funding from Local Area Committees, the route of ML5 was recently changed in consultation with Lindley area councillors and local community representatives. Leaflets showing the new routes were distributed to houses within 200 metres of the route.
"This is a great performance by the service," said Cllr Tony Brice, Lindley councillor and Metro's District Spokesperson for Kirklees. "Everyone involved has put in a lot of time to ensure it has the best chance of succeeding, and a 70% increase in passengers is proof that the service is now meeting the needs of the community.
"MetroLocal has been a huge success throughout Kirklees, and I'm pleased that my own ward of Lindley is contributing to that success."
MetroLocal ML5 runs every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between 9.30am and 2.30pm. A flat fare of £1 is charged, and Metro Concessionary Passes can be used on it, as well as other Metro passes and permits.
MetroLocal services are designed to provide safe, reliable and accessible transport links to local health, community and shopping facilities, improving the quality of life for local residents, particularly those of advanced age, restricted mobility and parents with young children.
