Double-deck bus of the type being introduced on routes in and around Leeds in 2009Metro Chairman Councillor Chris Greaves has welcomed the introduction by First of a new fleet of eight double-deck and four single-deck buses, with leather seats air conditioning and CCTV.

All of the new buses have low-floor access making it easier for people with buggies, wheelchair users and those who are less mobile, to get on and off. They are also fitted with the latest Euro IV engines, which are designed to reduce emissions and pollution.

The new vehicles will run on service X84 between Leeds, Otley, Ilkley and Skipton, as well as routes 56 (Whinmoor - Moor Grange), 96 (Leeds - Headingley - Cookridge). They will also operate services which use the East Leeds Guideway.

"Quite rightly, passengers expect to travel on modern, accessible buses, and First's investment in these new vehicles is another welcome step towards making this a reality," said Councillor Greaves.

First unveiled the first eight new double-deck buses for Service X84 in Otley on Wednesday 18 February. The four single-deck buses will be introduced in the next few weeks.
