Metro is taking a leading role in developing high-quality public transport projects for the Leeds City Region, which covers Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Craven, Harrogate, Kirklees, Leeds, Selby, Wakefield and York.
The 25-year Vision includes a network of tram-trains capable of running on existing rail routes and on streets, a new generation of rapid transit (initially in Leeds), further electrification of local rail routes and high quality bus links, new and upgraded road links, more park-and-ride sites and transport interchanges together with smartcard ticketing are also proposed.
Extending the benefits of MetroCard beyond the boundaries of West Yorkshire, across the city region is another key element of Metro’s Transport Vision.
With economic, social, health and environmental benefits calculated at over at least three times the £4.5bn cost of the package, the congestion-busting measures would more than repay the investment required.
