Followers of Metro on Twitter have grown from zero to 6,000 in just two and a half years.
This morning, @MetroTravelNews - the travel update feed for people on the move in West Yorkshire and beyond - clocked up its 6000th follower since the service was launched in November 2011.
Using information provided by bus and rail operators, and the MetroLine call centre, Metro’s Public Relations team provides travel updates through @MetroTravelNews from early morning to late evening.
“@MetroTravelNews has become a valuable way of communicating with the public and, at times of extreme weather like snow, ice and floods, relieving pressure on our MetroLine call centre,” said Metro Director General Kieran Preston.
“Feedback on the service has been overwhelmingly positive and I think the reason for that is that even if we can’t actually remove the accident that is blocking their bus route or replace the stolen signal cables delaying their train, people like to know there is someone trying to provide them with information and answer their questions.”
Much of the @MetroTravelNews information is backed up through the red Alerts section on the right-hand side every page of this website and on its ‘West Yorkshire Metro Facebook page, which is now ‘liked’ by over 1,800 people.
