A lengthening of the London-bound platform and the provision of a new bay platform at the southern end of Wakefield Westgate rail station, to enable improvements to the operation of the station. This work is dependant on the successful outcome of a timetable study.
In particular, the scheme will deliver performance benefits for the local service to Huddersfield and also allow the reinstatement of the Pontefract Line service into the station, subject to a timetable study.
Update
Following the Government's recent spending cuts announcements on 10 June 2010, we understand that the Department for Transport will not be in a position to make a decision on this scheme until the Comprehensive Spending Review is complete in the Autumn. Until that time we will minimise development expenditure on the scheme whilst continuing to make progress on contractual related issues.
