Metro in partnership with Northern Rail are developing and funding a scheme to keep train passengers better informed at rail stations across West Yorkshire. 18 stations will benefit from the installation of customer information screens with a total investment of over £600,000. The new integrated systems will give passengers up-to-the-minute train running information. Installation works are programmed to be completed by April 2012.
Screens wil be installed at the following stations:
- Bramley
- Castleford
- Cross Gates
- East Garforth
- Fitzwilliam
- Hebden Bridge
- Horsforth
- Knottingley
- Micklefield
- Moorthorpe
- Mytholmroyd
- Normanton
- Outwood
- Pontefract Monkhill
- Sandal & Agbrigg
- Sowerby Bridge
- Todmorden
- Woodlesford
A separate scheme is funding the installation of customer information screens at Wakefield Kirkgate rail station. The scheme is part of the National Station Improvement Programme (NSIP) which is a Department for Transport (DfT) funded project. Installation works are programmed for 2012.
The DfT has launched a new 'Access for All' Mid-Tier funding programme which invited the submission of bids from local authorities and the rail industry. The funding is targeted at providing improvements at stations which will enable more disabled people to access the rail network. Metro has submitted a funding application to fund further customer information screen installations at 22 other stations in West Yorkshire. A funding decision from the DfT is expected over the coming weeks.
