Metro, in partnership with Network Rail and Northern Rail is planning to build a new rail station at Apperley Bridge.
The proposed station site is located off Apperley Lane (A658) and is ideally situated to serve the communities on the outskirts of Bradford, Apperley Bridge, Yeadon and Guiseley by car or bus and the near community on bicycle or foot.
The proposed site has been chosen as it has the benefit of being adjacent to a relatively straight section of track with embankments wide enough to construct platforms and pedestrian access, existing railway signals do not have to be moved and there is land available within close proximity for a rail station car park.
Proposals for the new station include:
- New access road off Apperley Lane.
- Pick/drop off point and 300-space station car park.
- Fully-accessible platforms with both staircase and ramps.
- CCTV surveillance.
- Passenger information displays and public address system.
- Secure cycle parking.
- Modern waiting shelters.
Access
The station will be accessed by a new link road situated between the Stansfield Arms Public House and Little Park with a traffic-light controlled junction and dedicated access road to the car park and drop off point.
Planning consent was granted March 2010 by Bradford City Council.
Funding
Funding approval was granted in the Chancellor's 2011 Autumn Statement for the Rail Growth Package, which comprises two new rail stations at Kirkstall Forge and Apperley Bridge. The Department for Transport has approved £10.3m towards the £16.9m scheme. The remaining 40% of the cost is made up of a local funding contribution which includes a private sector contribution of over £5m, supplemented by Metro funding.
Subject to further technical work, it is envisaged that Full Approval will be granted to the project in Summer 2013, with construction commencing shortly thereafter. The stations are planned to be open by December 2014.
