The A65 Quality Bus Corridor scheme (£22m) has been developed to provide a high standard of bus service along a highly congested route into Leeds City Centre. The scheme for the second element is a comprehensive project to establish a Quality Bus Corridor between Leeds City Centre and Rawdon. The first element was the inbound Abbey Road bus lane completed in 2006.
This scheme covers the section of the route between the Inner Ring Road and Kirkstall Lane and comprises extensive bus priority measures together with significant measures to benefit pedestrians and cyclists.
It is proposed to install bus lanes, signal priority for buses at two major junctions, plus subsidiary junctions and pedestrian crossings, as well as improved bus fleet, passenger facilities, bus shelters and real-time information displays.
Benefits from the scheme include
- Bus passenger journey time improvements of 4-6 minutes in the peak periods and up to 3 minutes in the off-peak periods.
- A projected increase of 9% in bus use.
- Improvements in the safety and movement of pedestrians, cyclists and traffic.
Full Approval for this scheme has been granted.
