Close-up of a Class 333 trainIt can sometimes be tricky to know how to get to places using public transport, and there is nothing worse than making yourself late by getting on the wrong bus or train. However, such problems are easily avoided using the Journey Planner.

Using the journey planner can help you navigate between destinations in and around West Yorkshire and from West Yorkshire to other areas of the UK without any hassle. It can also help you find your way to key facilities, such as hospitals and airports.

The Journey Planner is easy to use, all you have to do is add the postcode or town you are travelling from and the postcode or town you are travelling to into the Journey Planner and click the find journey button. The Journey Planner will then present you with a detailed description of your journey, including what modes of transport you have to take, what times relevant buses and trains depart and how long the journey will take in total.

When using the route planner tool you can also opt to view a map of your route and bus timetable or train timetables to make planning your journey even easier.

Alternatively you can opt for the Journey Planner advanced search. When using the Journey Planner in this manner you input details of where you are travelling from and to, as well as anywhere you would like to travel via. You can also add details of what time you would like to set off and arrive and what mode of transport you prefer.

Getting to sports grounds using the Journey Planner

The Journey Planner is also useful for navigating to landmarks such as local sports venues, like Elland Road in Leeds, and Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield.

To plan your journey to a West Yorkshire sports ground, simply head to the Sports Venues tab on the Plan a Journey page and select the ground of your choice. You will then be given details of the ground's location and the buses and trains which travel to or near it, as well as what time they arrive, helping you to plan your journey to the big match more effectively and ensuring you won't miss the kick off.

The Journey Planner tool can be especially useful in helping away fans plan their journey to a ground they are not familiar with.

The Journey Planner is not only useful for planning journeys within West Yorkshire towns and cities, it can also be used to explore the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
