Consultation on bus services in the North Kirklees area (including Batley, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike and Mirfield)is now closed. Changes will come into effect on 26/27 January 2013.
The North
Kirklees Area Bus Network Review sought to examine Metro's expenditure on bus
services in the North Kirklees area. The main aim was to maintain an effective
bus network for the District at a lower cost to the local taxpayer. The bus
services will change over the weekend of 26/27 January 2013.
North Kirklees is served by a number of core bus services (pdf

Consultation took place during
May and July 2012 and we received a lot of comments. We would like to thank
everyone that contributed. Your comments helped us make some changes to our
proposals.
Main outcomes following consultation and tendering:-
- A number of journeys proposed to be withdrawn will now be
retained or re-timed.
- Service 256 will be retained as a limited peak
time Monday - Friday Service.
- A new service 259 will be introduced to
maintain an hourly link to Cleckheaton from Hunsworth, Scholes and Foldings
Estate.
- Headfield Road will continue to be served by Service 130
- Some journeys on service 205 which were proposed for withdrawal will be
maintained for one year on a use it or lose it basis.
Arriva
also made a number of changes to the services they operate on a commercial basis
as a result of the bus network review.
