Bradford bus review

Metro has reviewed the bus services it supports in the Bradford area

The Bradford Area Bus Network Review sought to examine Metro’s expenditure on bus services in the Bradford area. The main aim was to maintain an effective bus network for the District at a lower cost to the local taxpayer. The bus services changed over the weekend of 28/29 April 2012.

There was a separate bus review for services in Keighley. Ilkley services will be reviewed in 2013.

Most bus services in Bradford are operated commercially and so were not included in Metro’s review.

Consultation took place during September and October 2011 and we received a lot of comments. We would like to thank everyone that contributed. Your comments helped us make some changes to our proposals.

Main outcomes following consultation and tendering

• A number of bus services changed operator. Services 649, 656, 658, 659, 660, 678 and 679 based around Shipley are now operated by TLC Travel instead of First. Service 629 passed from Halifax Joint Committee to TLC Travel. Concessionary passes, MetroCards and MetroDay tickets continue to be valid on all these services.

• Some bus service numbers changed.

• A half hourly service remains between Bradford and East Bowling. The original proposal was to reduce service 624 to hourly in south Bradford. The new service (Bradford - East Bowling - West Bowling) has been re-numbered to 634.

• A half hourly service remains between Bradford and Leeds via Greengates (Service 670 / 671); hourly via Killinghall Road (670), hourly via Harrogate Road and Otley Road (671). The original proposal was for an hourly service to run in Bradford District.

• The hours of operation of the 678 service (Nab Wood) have been extended.

• A new service to Hirst Wood (service 679) has been introduced.

• Service 680 has been extended beyond Bradford Royal Infirmary along the route of service 629 as originally proposed.

• First also made a number of changes to the services they operate on a commercial basis as a result of the bus network review.
