  • What is Metro?
    Metro works on behalf of the 2.1 million people of West Yorkshire, to coordinate high-quality public transport services.

    PTAMeetingIt does this by:

     

    • financial supporting some bus services
    • funding local MetroTrain services
    • running passenger facilities
    • co-ordinating AccessBus services
    • managing prepaid tickets such as MetroCard and concessionary fares schemes
    • leading transport development
    • providing accurate, up-to-date information on all public transport services within West Yorkshire.

     

    Metro is the West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority (ITA) and West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (PTE).

     

    The ITA is made up of 22 elected councillors from the county's five local councils; Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield.

     

    The ITA sets policies to make public transport in West Yorkshire, reliable, easy to understand and use, accessible, attractive, affordable, safe and secure and efficient.

    The Executive employs over 400 people to carry out the work required by its policies. They are located at Wellington House and at Travel Centres and bus stations across West Yorkshire.
