Metro’s Mission Statement is “To be the driving force co-ordinating the provision and development of high quality public transport services for everybody within West Yorkshire”.
We currently employ around 400 staff and have an annual turnover
of approximately £100 million per year.
Key functions of Metro
- Tendering for subsidised bus services, most of which are early
morning, evening and Sunday services including Rural Bus and School
Bus Services.
- Responsibility for the Concessionary fares scheme for senior
citizens, disabled people and school children.
- Arranging the provision of local rail services within West
Yorkshire.
- Providing, operating and maintaining 22 bus stations.
- Provision of bus stops and passenger shelters throughout the
county.
- Running a prepaid ticket scheme on behalf of bus and train
operators.
- The provision of passenger information via Metroline and at
Travel Centres, particularly timetables for all bus and rail
services in the county.
- Providing AccessBuses for mobility impaired passengers.
- Planning of future public transport projects and improvements
to facilities in line with the Local Transport Plan.

Metro is the "Trading Name" of West Yorkshire Passenger
Transport Executive. Metro is a public body responsible for
carrying out the policies of the West Yorkshire Integrated
Transport Authority, which consists of 22 Councillors appointed by
the five District Councils of West Yorkshire. The Integrated
Transport Authority is responsible for financing Metro and sets the
annual budget.
