Local rail service disruptions

Details of scheduled engineering work affecting local rail services in West Yorkshire.

Metro has been informed of the following timetable alterations affecting local rail services in West Yorkshire.

Airedale Line

All day on Sunday 14 February 2010 work at Calverley and Thackley tunnel will block the route between Leeds and Shipley. Leeds - Bradford Forster Square trains will be replaced by buses throughout, departing originating station at advertised times. Journey times will be extended and passengers between Leeds and Bradford are advised to use the Caldervale Line service.

Skipton - Leeds trains will terminate in platform 2 at Shipley with connecting buses between Shipley and Leeds. Leeds - Skipton trains will start from platform 2 at Shipley at advertised times and the Leeds - Bradford Forster Square buses will connect with these trains at Shipley. Additional buses will run from Leeds to Shipley departing at advertised times and alternate hours these buses will connect with the Bradford Forster Square - Skipton trains at Shipley. Journeys to and from Leeds will be extended.

Leeds - Morecambe/ Carlisle trains will be diverted to start from and terminate at Bradford Forster Square. They will depart from Shipley at advertised times with connecting buses between Leeds and Shipley, departing earlier than advertised from Leeds in order to connect. Journeys to and from Leeds will be extended. The Bradford Forster Square - Skipton service will run normally.

From 1300 on Saturdays 13, 20, 27 March until 1500 on Sundays 14, 21, 28 March 2010 trains will be unable to run through Carnforth station. Leeds - Morecambe trains on Saturdays will terminate at and start from Bentham with connecting buses between Bentham and Morecambe. Carnforth passengers should travel via Morecambe. The 1019 Leeds - Heysham Port train will terminate at Lancaster with a connecting bus to Heysham. The 1315 Heysham Port - Leeds train will start from Bentham with a replacement bus between Heysham and Skipton. Journey times involving buses will be extended. No Leeds trains are affected on Sundays.

Caldervale Line

Due to overnight engineering work, from Monday 8 February 2010 until Friday 12 February 2010, the 0547 Hebden Bridge to Leeds service will start from Halifax at 0603. Two rail replacement bus service, departing earlier, will be provided between Hebden Bridge and Halifax to connect with the train service:
  • Bus 1 - Hebden Bridge 0515, Mytholmroyd 0525, Sowerby Bridge 0540), arriving Halifax 0555.
  • Bus 2 - Hebden Bridge 0545, Mytholmroyd 0555, Sowerby Bridge 0610), arriving Halifax 0625.

Bus 1 connects with the train at Halifax arriving in Leeds at 0642. Bus 2 provides a later departure connecting with the 0633 train to Leeds arriving 0709.

On Monday to Thursday 15 to 18 February 2010 due to overnight maintenance between Bradford and Leeds, the 2320 Manchester Victoria - Leeds train will be diverted from Bradford Interchange (reverse) via Brighouse non stop to Leeds arriving later at 0115 next day. This train is not advertised to make any calls between Bradford Interchange and Leeds.

All day on Sundays 21, 28 February, 7, 14 March 2010 the line will be blocked between Leeds and Micklefield. Huddersfield/ Halifax - York local trains will therefore terminate at and start from Leeds at advertised times with replacement buses between Leeds and York calling intermediate stations. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

All weekend Saturday and Sunday 27/28 February 2010 the line will be blocked between Preston and Blackpool North. York - Blackpool North trains on Sunday are already replaced by buses between Halifax and Blackpool North (and between York and Leeds). All day on Saturday York - Blackpool North trains will terminate at and start from Preston at advertised times with replacement buses between Preston and Blackpool North. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

All day on Sundays 28 February, 7, 14 and 21 March 2010 the line will also be blocked between Hebden Bridge and Manchester Victoria. Buses already replace trains between Halifax and Todmorden. These will be extended to run between Halifax and Manchester Victoria, be retimed from those advertised in the timetable, and replace trains between Todmorden and Manchester Victoria. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

On Sunday 21 March 2010 until 1020 the line will be blocked between Church Fenton and York. Early morning trains will terminate at and start from Micklefield with connecting buses between Micklefield and York. Buses will depart from York earlier than advertised at 0810 and 0915. Journey times involving buses will be extended. Trains affected are 0831 Bradford Interchange - York, 0906 Halifax - York, 0850 and 0952 York - Halifax.

On Mondays to Thursdays 29 March to 1 April and 19 to 22 April 2010 due to overnight maintenance between Bradford and Leeds, the 2320 Manchester Victoria - Leeds train will be diverted from Bradford Interchange (reverse) via Brighouse non stop to Leeds arriving later at 0115 next day. This train is not advertised to make any calls between Bradford Interchange and Leeds.

Dearne Valley Line

No planned disruptions.

Hallam Line

On Sunday 21 March 2010 due to blockages at Nottingham station and on the route via Derby Leeds - Nottingham via Barnsley trains will terminate at and start from Chesterfield with connecting buses between Chesterfield and Nottingham. Buses from Nottingham, Langley Mill and Alfreton will depart earlier than advertised. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

On Sunday 28 March 2010 due to work around Nottingham station Leeds - Nottingham via Barnsley trains will terminate at and start from Alfreton with connecting buses between Alfreton and Nottingham. Buses from Nottingham and Langley Mill will depart earlier than advertised. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

The 2115 Lincoln - Leeds (2239 Sheffield via Barnsley) train will be diverted from Wakefield Kirkgate to run directly to Leeds not calling at Normanton, Castleford and Woodlesford, which will be served by a connecting bus from Wakefield Kirkgate at 2335.

On Sundays, Easter Sunday 4 April to 16 May 2010 inclusive Leeds - Nottingham via Barnsley trains will terminate at and start from Chester-field with connecting buses between Chesterfield and Nottingham calling intermediate stations. Journey times involving buses will be extended. Details are included in the current Metro Leeds - Sheffield composite timetable.

Harrogate Line

No planned disruptions.

Huddersfield Line

On Saturdays 13, 20, 27 February, 6, 13, 20, 27 March, 3, 10, 17, 24 April 2010 the 2305 Huddersfield - Manchester Victoria train will terminate at Stalybridge with a connecting bus to Manchester Victoria at 2345 calling Ashton-u-Lyne.

Penistone Line

No planned disruptions.

Pontefract Line

On Mondays to Thursdays 15 to 18 March 2010 the 2304 Wakefield Westgate - Knottingley train will be replaced by a bus throughout with extended journey times. The 2305 Knottingley - Leeds train will start from Glasshoughton at 2314 with a replacement bus from Knottingley to Leeds at 2305, arriving 0004 and setting down only beyond Pontefract Monkhill.

On Sunday 28 March 2010 the 2226 Knottingley - Leeds train will be replaced by a bus throughout with extended journey times.

Wakefield Line

No planned disruptions.

Wharfedale Line

All day on Sunday 14 February 2010 work at Calverley will block the route between Leeds and Guiseley. Leeds - Ilkley trains will start from and terminate at Guiseley with connecting buses between Leeds and Guiseley. Buses from Leeds will depart earlier than advertised in order to connect. Journeys to and from Leeds will be extended. The Bradford Forster Square - Ilkley service will run normally.

York & Selby Lines

On Sundays 7 February to 28 March 2010 inclusive, owing to engineering work on the Calder Valley, York - Blackpool trains will terminate at and start from Halifax every hour with connecting buses between Halifax and Blackpool North every 2 hours and to and from Hebden Bridge only alternate hours. Journey times involving replacement buses will be extended. Details are included in the current Metro Caldervale Line timetable.

All day on Sundays 21, 28 February, 7, 14 March 2010 the line will be blocked between Leeds and Micklefield. Huddersfield/ Halifax - York local trains will therefore terminate at and start from Leeds at advertised times with replacement buses between Leeds and York calling intermediate stations. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

On Saturday 27 February 2010 all day York - Blackpool North trains will terminate at and start from Preston at advertised times with replacement buses between Preston and Blackpool North. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

On Sunday 21 March 2010 until 1020 the line will be blocked between Church Fenton and York. Early morning trains will terminate at and start from Micklefield with connecting buses between Micklefield and York. Buses will depart from York earlier than advertised at 0810 and 0915.
