Details of engineering work affecting local rail services in and serving West Yorkshire.

Metro has been informed of the following timetable alterations affecting local rail services in West Yorkshire.

Airedale Line

On Sundays 14, 21, 28 September and 5 October 2008 track renewals at Steeton will block the Airedale route between Keighley and Skipton all day. Northern will operate diesel services between Leeds/ Bradford Forster Square and Keighley in each direction with connecting buses between Keighley and Skipton calling at Steeton & Silsden and Cononley. Leeds - Morecambe/ Carlisle trains will start from and terminate at Skipton. Overall journey times beyond Keighley will be extended.

Caldervale Line

Due to engineering work on Sundays 20 July to 7 September 2008 inclusive local trains will be replaced by buses between Leeds and York and between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria. Journey times will be extended and buses will depart Manchester Victoria and York earlier than normal in order to connect. Details are included in relevant Metro timetables.

On Saturday 26 July 2008 the 2030 Blackpool North - York train will terminate at Leeds with a connecting bus to York at 2254 calling intermediate stations, York arrive 0029 Sunday. Journey times beyond Leeds will be extended.

Signalling commissioning work between Summit Tunnel and Todmorden will require Leeds - Rochdale trains to terminate at and start from Hebden Bridge on Sunday 17 August 2008. Caldervale Line trains are already replaced by buses between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria (see above). The existing express buses between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria will start back from Hebden Bridge, call at intermediate stations and connect out of terminating trains. The last bus at 2233 will call additionally to set down passengers at intermediate stations between Rochdale and Manchester Victoria. The express buses between Manchester Victoria and Rochdale will start earlier than advertised and be extended to Hebden Bridge, call at intermediate stations and connect into trains starting from Hebden Bridge at advertised times. The 2038 Manchester Victoria - Rochdale stopping bus will be extended to Hebden Bridge to connect with the 2112 Blackpool North - Leeds train and the 2225 Manchester Victoria - Rochdale last bus depart at advertised time and be extended to Leeds, setting down only beyond Hebden Bridge. Trains between Leeds and Blackpool North will not be affected by this work.

A possession between Church Fenton and York before 1020 on Sunday 19 October 2008 will prevent Northern running any trains between Micklefield and York. Trains will start from and terminate at Micklefield with connecting buses between Micklefield and York. Trains affected are the 0831 Bradford Interchange - York, 0848 York - Blackpool North and 0952 York - Huddersfield. The 0906 Halifax - York train will be retimed later from Micklefield.

On Monday to Thursday 3 to 6 November 2008,due to overnight maintenance between Bradford and Leeds, the 2319 Manchester Victoria - Leeds train will be diverted from Bradford Interchange (reverse) via Brighouse non stop to Leeds arriving later at 0115 next day. This train is not advertised to make any calls between Bradford Interchange and Leeds.

Dearne Valley Line

Track renewals at Knottingley curve from 1900 Saturday until 1900 Sunday each weekend from 26/27 July to 6/7 September 2008 inclusive, which prevent access beyond Pontefract Monkhill on the Pontefract Line, will also affect two trains on the Dearne Valley Line each Sunday. On Sundays 27 July, 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 August and 7 September 2008 the 1546 Sheffield - York via Pontefract Baghill train will terminate at Moorthorpe with a connecting bus from Moorthorpe to York at 1625. The 1717 York - Sheffield via Pontefract Baghill train will start from Moorthorpe at 1802 with a connecting bus from York to Moorthorpe departing earlier than advertised at 1643. Journey times will be extended.

Due to major engineering work in Bradway tunnel south of Sheffield the timetable will be reissued from Monday 8 September to 13 December 2008. Long distance trains from and to the south will use an alternative route via the north end of Sheffield station where they will reverse, affecting the timing and ability of local trains to reach Sheffield, some of which may terminate at and start from Meadowhall. Details will be included in the reissued Pontefract Line timetable.

Hallam Line

Due to major engineering work in Bradway tunnel south of Sheffield the Leeds - Sheffield composite and Hallam Line timetables will be reissued from Monday 8 September to 13 December 2008. Long distance trains from and to the south will use an alternative route via the north end of Sheffield station where they will reverse, affecting the timing and ability of local trains to reach Sheffield, some of which may terminate at and start from Meadowhall. Details will be included in the reissued timetables.

On Sundays 14, 21, 28 September 2008 track renewals at Hunslet and other work at Ecclesfield will block the Hallam Line all day. Leeds - Sheffield via Barnsley trains will be diverted via Wakefield Westgate non-stop between Leeds and Wakefield Kirkgate (reverse) and will terminate at Barnsley with connecting buses between Leeds and Castleford serving Woodlesford and between Barnsley and Sheffield. Leeds - Sheffield via Barnsley fast services will be replaced by buses throughout. Buses from Sheffield will depart earlier than advertised. Overall journey times will be extended. In addition due to work from 2230 on Saturdays 13, 20, 27 September 2008 the 2234 Leeds - Wakefield Kirkgate and 2252 Wakefield Kirkgate - Leeds via Castleford trains will be replaced by buses throughout. Overall journey times will be extended.

Due to engineering work at various locations between Barnsley and Meadowhall all day on Sundays 5, 12, 19 October 2008 Leeds - Sheffield via Barnsley trains will terminate at and start from Barnsley with connecting buses between Barnsley and Sheffield. Buses from Sheffield will depart earlier than advertised. Overall journey times will be extended.

On Sunday 12 October 2008 the 2312 Barnsley - Leeds (2115 Lincoln/ 2239 Sheffield starting Barnsley) train will be diverted from Wakefield Kirkgate to run non stop via Outwood due to overnight maintenance work . A connecting bus from Wakefield Kirkgate at 2335 will serve Normanton, Castleford and Woodlesford with extended journey times.

Engineering work at Barnsley will block the route all day on Sundays 26 October and 2 November 2008. Leeds - Sheffield via Barnsley local trains will terminate at and start from Wakefield Kirkgate with connecting buses between Sheffield and Wakefield Kirkgate. Buses from Sheffield will depart earlier than advertised. Leeds - Sheffield via Barnsley semi-fast trains will be replaced by buses throughout. Overall journey times will be extended.

Harrogate Line

Due to track maintenance between Horsforth and Harrogate until 1600 on Sundays 12 and 19 October 2008 York - Harrogate - Leeds trains will terminate at Harrogate and restart from Horsforth at advertised times with connecting buses between Harrogate and Leeds, setting down only beyond Horsforth. Leeds - Harrogate - York trains will terminate at Horsforth and restart from Harrogate at advertised times with connecting buses between Horsforth and York, setting down only beyond Harrogate.

Huddersfield Line

On Sundays 20 July to 7 September 2008 inclusive Huddersfield - Manchester local trains will be diverted to run to and from Manchester Piccadilly instead of Manchester Victoria, not calling at Ashton-u-Lyne which will be served by connecting buses. The 0818 Manchester - Huddersfield will be retimed to depart Manchester Piccadilly at 0745, Huddersfield arrive 0829. Details are included in the Huddersfield Line timetable.

On Saturdays 26 July and 2 August 2008 Huddersfield - Manchester Victoria trains will be diverted to and from Manchester Piccadilly not calling at Ashton-u-Lyne, with connecting buses between Stalybridge and Manchester Victoria serving Ashton under Lyne. The 2216 Wigan W. - Huddersfield train will terminate at Manchester Victoria with an additional train from Manchester Piccadilly.

On Mondays to Thursdays 18 to 21 August and 29 September to 2 October 2008 the 2322 Huddersfield - Manchester Victoria local train will be replaced by a bus throughout, with extended journey times. On Monday to Thursday 1 to 4 September 2008 the 2322 Huddersfield - Manchester Victoria train will terminate at Stalybridge with a connecting bus to Manchester Victoria serving Ashton under Lyne.

On Sundays 14 September to 7 December 2008 inclusive due to overnight work First TransPennine Express trains before 0830 (and after 2330 on the preceding Saturdays) will be replaced by buses between Manchester Airport and Leeds/ York serving Manchester Piccadilly, Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Leeds. The 2300 Manchester V. - Huddersfield train on these Saturdays will be replaced by a bus between Greenfield and Huddersfield (arrive 0022 Sunday) with extended journey time. The 0748 Huddersfield - Leeds local train will be replaced by a bus throughout departing at 0730 with extended journey time. The 0844 Leeds - Marsden train will start from Hudersfield at 0919 with a replacement bus from Leeds to Marsden at 0844 with extended journey time. On Sundays 14 September to 2 November 2008 inclusive the 0818 Manchester Victoria - Huddersfield and 0907 Huddersfield - Manchester Victoria trains do not run. On Sundays 9 November to 7 December 2008 inclusive due to the closure of Standedge tunnel First TransPennine Express trains after 0830 will be diverted via the Calder Valley between Leeds and Manchester Victoria not calling at Stalybridge. Only one train per hour will serve Huddersfield and reverse. The Huddersfield - Manchester Victoria local train service will not operate.

Penistone Line

Due to major engineering work in Bradway tunnel south of Sheffield the Penistone Line timetable will be reissued from Monday 8 September to 13 December 2008. Long distance trains from and to the south will use an alternative route via the north end of Sheffield station where they will reverse, affecting the timing and ability of local trains to reach Sheffield, some of which may terminate at and start from Meadowhall. Details will be included in the reissued timetable.

On Sundays 14, 21, 28 September 2008 work at Ecclesfield will block the route all day. Huddersfield - Sheffield trains will terminate at and start from Barnsley with connecting buses between Barnsley and Sheffield. In addition due to other work in Welhouse tunnel on Sunday 14 September 2008 trains before 1800 will instead be replaced by buses between Shepley and Sheffield. Buses from Sheffield will depart earlier than advertised. Overall journey times will be extended.

Due to engineering work at various locations between Barnsley and Meadowhall all day on Sundays 5, 12, 19 October 2008 Huddersfield - Sheffield trains will terminate at and start from Barnsley with connecting buses between Barnsley and Sheffield. Buses from Sheffield will depart earlier than advertised. Overall journey times will be extended.

Engineering work at Barnsley will block the route all day on Sundays 26 October and 2 November 2008. Huddersfield - Sheffield trains will terminate at and start from Penistone with connecting buses between Sheffield and Penistone. Buses from Sheffield will depart earlier than advertised. Overall journey times will be extended.

Pontefract Line

Network Rail will be carrying out track renewals at Knottingley from 1900 Saturday until 1900 Sunday each weekend 26/27 July, 2/3, 9/10, 16/17, 23/24, 30/31 August and 6/7 September 2008 which will prevent access beyond Pontefract Monkhill. Leeds - Knottingley trains will terminate at and start from Pontefract Monkhill with connecting buses between Pontefract Monkhill and Knottingley. Buses from Knottingley will depart earlier than advertised in order to connect. 1849 Goole - Leeds on Saturdays will also start from Pontefract Monkhill with a connecting bus from Goole at 1849 to Castleford to connect into 1908 Sheffield - Leeds at 2004. The last bus from Knottingley departiing at advertised time at 2318 on Saturdays will run through to Leeds. 1917 and 2117 Leeds - Knottingley and 2026, 2226 Knottingley - Leeds trains on Sundays will run normally. Wakefield - Knottingley trains on Saturday evenings will be replaced by buses throughout departing originating station at advertised times. Journey times will be extended.

Due to major engineering work in Bradway tunnel south of Sheffield the Pontefract/ Dearne Valley Line timetable will be reissued from Monday 8 September to 13 December 2008. Long distance trains from and to the south will use an alternative route via the north end of Sheffield station where they will reverse, affecting the timing and ability of local trains to reach Sheffield, some of which may terminate at and start from Meadowhall, and connections at Wakefield. Details will be included in the reissued timetable.

Due to overnight work at Knottingley from 2230 on Saturdays 13, 20, 27 September 2008 Leeds/ Wakefield - Knottingley trains will terminate at and start from Pontefract Monkhill with connecting buses between Pontefract Monkhill and Knottingley. The 2204 Leeds - Knottingley, 2157 Wakefield Westgate - Knottingley, 2318 Knottingley - Leeds, 2230 Knottingley - Wakefield Westgate trains are affected. The 2218 Knottingley - Leeds train will be diverted via Wakefield Westgate non-stop from Castleford with a connecting bus serving Woodlesford. Also the 2234 Leeds - Wakefield Kirkgate and 2252 Wakefield Kirkgate - Leeds via Castleford trains will be replaced by buses throughout. Overall journey times will be extended.

The 2204 Leeds - Knottingley, 2157 Wakefield Westgate - Knottingley, 2318 Knottingley - Leeds, 2230 Knottingley - Wakefield Westgate trains are affected. Overall journey times will be extended.

Wakefield Line

Due to major engineering work in Bradway tunnel south of Sheffield the Leeds - Sheffield composite and Wakefield Line timetables will be reissued from Monday 8 September to 13 December 2008 . Long distance trains from and to the south will be retimed using an alternative route via the north end of Sheffield station where they will reverse, affecting the timing and ability of local trains to reach Sheffield, some of which may terminate at and start from Meadowhall. Details will be included in the reissued timetables.

Wharfedale Line

No current work.

York & Selby Lines

On Sundays 20 July to 7 September 2008 inclusive Blackpool/ Huddersfield - York local trains will terminate at Leeds with replacement buses between Leeds and York calling intermediately as advertised. Buses from York will depart significantly earlier than normal in order to connect. Journey times east of Leeds will be extended and passengers should allow extra time to complete their journeys. First TransPennine Express and CrossCountry trains will be diverted via Castleford between Leeds (reverse) and York with extended journey times. First TransPennine Express trains between Leeds and Hull will be also diverted with replacement buses between Leeds and Selby serving South Milford, departing Leeds earlier than normal in order to connect at Selby. An overnight engineering work possession between Leeds and York not affecting any Northern trains, has been brought forward at short notice to start at 2245 on Saturday 26 July 2008 now affecting the last trains in each direction. The 2030 Blackpool North - York train will terminate at Leeds with a connecting bus to York at 2254 calling Cross Gates 2309, Garforth 2320, East Garforth 2329, Micklefield 2339, Church Fenton 2359, York arrive 0029 Sunday. The 2313 York - Leeds train will be replaced by a bus throughout, York depart 2313, Church Fenton 2343, Micklefield 0003, East Garforth 0013, Garforth 0022, Cross Gates 0033, Leeds arrive 0048 Sunday. Journey times will be extended. First TransPennineExpress trains are expected to be diverted via Castleford.

Due to major engineering work in Bradway tunnel south of Sheffield affecting long distance services the York & Selby Lines timetable will be reissued from Monday 8 September to 13 December 2008. Long distance trains from and to the south will be retimed using an alternative route via the north end of Sheffield station where they will reverse, also affecting the timing and ability of local trains to reach Sheffield, some of which may terminate at and start from Meadowhall. Details will be included in the reissued timetable.
