Local rail service disruptions

Details of scheduled engineering work affecting local rail services in West Yorkshire.

Metro has been informed of the following timetable alterations affecting local rail services in West Yorkshire.

Airedale Line

From 1300 on Saturdays 20, 27 March until 1500 on Sundays 21, 28 March 2010 the line will be blocked between Lancaster and Carnforth, with trains unable to access Carnforth station on 20 March 2010.

Leeds - Morecambe trains on Saturday 20 March 2010 will terminate at and start from Bentham with connecting buses between Bentham and Morecambe. Carnforth passengers should travel via Morecambe. The 1019 Leeds - Heysham Port train will terminate at Lancaster with a connecting bus to Heysham Port. The 1315 Heysham Port - Leeds train will start from Bentham with a replacement bus between Heysham and Skipton. Journey times involving buses will be extended. No Leeds trains are affected on any Sundays.

Leeds - Morecambe trains on Saturday 27 March 2010 will terminate at and start from Carnforth with connecting buses between Carnforth, Lancaster and Morecambe. The 1019 Leeds - Heysham Port train will terminate at Lancaster with a connecting bus between Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham Port.

Work in the Carlisle area all day on Easter Sunday 4 April 2010 will prevent trains from Leeds and Newcastle serving Carlisle station. Leeds - Carlisle trains, also the 0836 Blackpool North - Carlisle and 1739 Carlisle - Blackpool North trains, will terminate at and start from Armathwaite with connecting buses to and from Carlisle involving extended journey times.

On Saturdays 8 May, 12 June and 10 July 2010 as a result of the provision of music trains, the 2100 Ribblehead - Skipton train will depart at 2110 and be extended to Leeds arrive 2218, calling Shipley only at 2205. The 2148 Skipton - Leeds train will be retimed to depart at 2201 and run later to Leeds, providing a connection at Skipton for intermediate stations.

Caldervale Line

All day on Sunday 21 March 2010 the line will also be blocked between Hebden Bridge and Manchester Victoria. Buses already replace trains between Halifax and Todmorden. These will be extended to run between Halifax and Manchester Victoria, be retimed from those advertised in the timetable, and replace trains between Todmorden and Manchester Victoria. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

Until 1020 the line will be blocked between Church Fenton and York. Early morning trains will terminate at and start from Micklefield with connecting buses between Micklefield and York. Buses will depart from York earlier than advertised at 0810 and 0915. Journey times involving buses will be extended. Trains affected are 0831 Bradford Interchange - York, 0906 Halifax - York, 0850 and 0952 York - Halifax.

On Sunday 28 March 2010, owing to engineering work on the Calder Valley, York - Blackpool trains will terminate at and start from Halifax every hour with connecting buses between Halifax and Blackpool North every 2 hours and to and from Hebden Bridge only alternate hours. The full hourly York - Blackpool North service will resume from Easter Sunday 4 April 2010. Leeds - Manchester Victoria trains will run between Leeds and Halifax, Todmorden and Manchester Victoria only, with connecting buses between Halifax and Todmorden. Journey times involving replacement buses will be extended. Details are included in the current Metro Caldervale Line timetable.

On Tuesday to Friday 23 to 26 March 2010 the 0547 Hebden Bridge - Leeds train will start from Halifax at 0603, with two replacement buses from Hebden Bridge to Halifax, one at 0515 connecting into the train and one at 0545 arriving Halifax at 0625, both calling at Mytholmroyd and Sowerby Bridge.

On Mondays to Thursdays 29 March to 1 April, 19 to 22 April, and 31 May to 3 June 2010 due to overnight maintenance between Bradford and Leeds, the 2320 Manchester Victoria - Leeds train will be diverted from Bradford Interchange (reverse) via Brighouse non stop to Leeds arriving later at 0115 next day. This train is not advertised to make any calls between Bradford Interchange and Leeds.

On Sunday 2 May 2010 owing to a major blockade in the Leeds Whitehall area most lines west of Leeds station will be blocked until 1600. Leeds - Halifax/ Huddersfield via Bradford trains will be replaced by buses throughout. York - Blackpool North trains will be diverted via an alternative route to Hebden Bridge not calling at New Pudsey, Bradford Interchange and Halifax, but calling additionally at Brighouse, with connecting buses between Leeds and Brighouse. Leeds - Manchester Victoria trains will start from and terminate at Bradford Interchange with connecting buses from and to Leeds calling at Bramley and New Pudsey. The 2254 Manchester Victoria - Leeds train on Saturday will also terminate at Bradford Interchange. Journey times to and from Leeds will be extended.

Owing to work at Bramley on Saturdays and Sundays 8/9 and 15/16 May 2010 the line between Leeds and Bradford Interchange will be blocked all weekend. York - Blackpool trains will run throughout but be diverted via alternative routes between Leeds and Halifax not calling at Bradford Interchange and New Pudsey but calling additionally at Brighouse. Connecting buses will run between Halifax and Leeds serving intermediate stations. Selby/ Leeds - Manchester Victoria trains will mostly start from and terminate at Bradford Interchange with connecting buses between Leeds and Bradford Interchange calling at Bramley and New Pudsey. Some early morning or late evening trains will run throughout via Morley. A separate service will run between Selby and Leeds at advertised times on Saturdays connecting at Leeds.

Wakefield Westgate/ Huddersfield - Leeds/ Selby via Halifax trains on Saturdays will run normally between Wakefield Westgate and Huddersfield and between Leeds and Selby with connecting buses between Huddersfield and Leeds calling all intermediate stations. On Sundays Huddersfield/ Halifax - Leeds via Bradford trains will be replaced by buses throughout. The Leeds - Huddersfield service via Dewsbury will operate normally. Journey times involving buses will be extended. Depending on timings it may be sometimes be better to change into and out of buses at Halifax rather than Bradford Interchange.

Dearne Valley Line

On Saturdays and Sundays 24/25 April, 1/2 May 2010 owing to a blockade in the Moorthorpe area, the Sheffield - York via Pontefract Baghill rail service will be replaced by a bus service between Swinton and York on Saturdays connecting with other trains at Swinton, and by a bus service throughout on Sundays. Journey times will be extended.

On Sundays 9 and 16 May 2010 owing to a blockade at Moorthorpe the Sheffield - York via Pontefract Baghill rail service will be replaced by a bus service throughout. Journey times will be extended.

Hallam Line

On Sunday 21 March 2010, owing to blockages at Nottingham station and on the route via Derby Leeds - Nottingham via Barnsley trains will terminate at and start from Chesterfield with connecting buses between Chesterfield and Nottingham. Buses from Nottingham, Langley Mill and Alfreton will depart earlier than advertised. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

On Sunday 28 March 2010 due to work around Nottingham station Leeds - Nottingham via Barnsley trains will terminate at and start from Alfreton with connecting buses between Alfreton and Nottingham. Buses from Nottingham and Langley Mill will depart earlier than advertised. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

The 2115 Lincoln - Leeds (2239 Sheffield via Barnsley) train will be diverted from Wakefield Kirkgate to run direct to Leeds non stop via Outwood. A connecting bus from Wakefield Kirkgate at 2335 will serve Normanton, Castleford and Woodlesford, Leeds arrive 0034 Monday.

On Sundays, Easter Sunday 4 April to 16 May 2010 inclusive Leeds - Nottingham via Barnsley trains will terminate at and start from Chester-field with connecting buses between Chesterfield and Nottingham calling intermediate stations. Journey times involving buses will be extended. Details are included in the current Metro Leeds - Sheffield composite timetable.

On Sundays 25 April and 16 May 2010 the 2115 Lincoln - Leeds (2239 Sheffield via Barnsley) train will be diverted from Wakefield Kirkgate to run direct to Leeds non stop via Outwood. A connecting bus from Wakefield Kirkgate at 2335 will serve Normanton, Castleford and Woodlesford, Leeds arrive 0034 Monday.

Harrogate Line

Until 1600 on Sunday 9 May 2010 trains will run between Leeds and Horsforth, Harrogate and York only, with replacement buses between Horsforth and Harrogate. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

Huddersfield Line

On Saturdays 20, 27 March, 3, 10, 17, 24 April 2010 the 2305 Huddersfield - Manchester Victoria train will terminate at Stalybridge with a connecting bus to Manchester Victoria at 2345 calling Ashton-u-Lyne.

On Sunday 2 May 2010 until 1600, owing to a major blockade in the Leeds Whitehall area, the Leeds - Huddersfield local service will be replaced by buses throughout. Journey times will be extended.

On Saturday 22 May 2010 the 2305 Huddersfield - Manchester Victoria train will terminate at Stalybridge with a connecting bus to Manchester Victoria at 2345 calling Ashton-u-Lyne.

Penistone Line

All day on Sundays 16, 23, 30 May and 6 June 2010 owing to work at Dodworth, Huddersfield - Sheffield trains will terminate at Penistone with connecting buses between Penistone, Barnsley and Sheffield. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

Pontefract Line

On Mondays to Thursdays 15 to 18 March, 26 to 29 April and 7 to 10 June 2010 the 2304 Wakefield Westgate - Knottingley train will be replaced by a bus throughout with extended journey times. The 2305 Knottingley - Leeds train will start from Glasshoughton at 2314 with a replacement bus from Knottingley to Leeds at 2305, arriving 0004 and setting down only beyond Pontefract Monkhill.

On Sundays 28 March, 25 April and 16 May 2010 the 2226 Knottingley - Leeds train will be replaced by a bus throughout with extended journey times.

Wakefield Line

All weekend Saturdays and Sundays 24/25 April and 1/2 May 2010 work in the Moorthorpe area will block the route south of Wakefield Westgate. A rail shuttle service will operate between Leeds and Wakefield Westgate with replacement buses between Wakefield Westgate and Doncaster on both days. On Saturdays connecting buses will run between Wakefield Westgate and Swinton, connecting into other trains at Swinton for stations to and from Sheffield. On Sundays buses will run between Wakefield Westgate and Sheffield. Last buses from Doncaster and Sheffield will be extended through to Leeds. Additionally before 1600 on Sunday 2 May all buses will run throughout between Leeds and Doncaster/ Sheffield replacing the shuttle service, owing to another blockade in the Leeds area. Journey times involving buses will be extended and Meadowhall and Sheffield passengers are advised to use train services via Barnsley, which will run normally.

From 2300 Saturdays and all day Sundays 8/9 and 15/16 May 2010 work in the Moorthorpe area will block the route south of Wakefield Westgate. On Saturdays the 2234 Sheffield - Leeds via Moorthorpe train will run between Sheffield and Moorthorpe, Wakefield Westgate and Leeds at advertised times with a replacement bus between Moorthorpe and Leeds. The 2244 Leeds - Sheffield via Moorthorpe train will run between Leeds and Wakefield Westgate, Moorthorpe and Sheffield at advertised times with a replacement bus between Wakefield Westgate and Sheffield arrive 0107. The 2252 Leeds - Doncaster train will be replaced by a bus throughout, Leeds arrive 0046. Journey times involving buses will be extended.

On Sundays a rail shuttle service will operate between Leeds and Wakefield Westgate with replacement buses between Wakefield Westgate and Doncaster. Buses will run between Wakefield Westgate and Sheffield. Last buses from Doncaster and Sheffield will be extended through to Leeds. Journey times involving buses will be extended and Meadowhall and Sheffield passengers are advised to use train services via Barnsley, which will run normally.

Wharfedale Line

No planned disruptions.

York & Selby Lines

On Sunday 21 March 2010 until 1020 the line will be blocked between Church Fenton and York. Early morning trains will terminate at and start from Micklefield with connecting buses between Micklefield and York. Buses will depart from York earlier than advertised at 0810 and 0915. Journey times involving buses will be extended. Trains affected are 0831 Bradford Interchange - York, 0906 Halifax - York, 0850 and 0952 York - Halifax.
