Trains to and from Glasgow Central will terminate at and start from Edinburgh Waverley with connecting coaches to and from Motherwell. Glasgow passengers are advised to use other operators' services. Inverness trains will also terminate at and start from Edinburgh.
Monday to Friday 29 December 2008 to 2 January 2009
On Monday trains to and from Glasgow Central will terminate at and start from Edinburgh Waverley with connecting coaches to and from Motherwell. Glasgow passengers are advised to use other operators' services until 31 December. On Tuesday to Friday a revised timetable will operate each day, with a reduced evening service on New Year's Eve, and a reduced service all day on New Year's Day and Friday. On Thursday Aberdeen and Inverness trains will terminate at and start from Edinburgh. On Friday the 1400, 1600 London Kings Cross - Aberdeen trains will terminate at Dundee with connecting coaches to Aberdeen.

All weekend due to engineering work between Darlington and Newcastle an hourly service will run via the Durham coast route with remaining trains terminating at and starting from Darlington and replacement buses between Darlington, Durham and Newcastle. There will be no Aberdeen trains. On Mondays 5, 12, 19, 26 January the 0752 Aberdeen - London Kings Cross train will start from Dundee. On Sundays 11, 18, 25 January through trains to and from Glasgow Central will terminate at and start from Edinburgh Waverley with replacement coaches between Edinburgh and Motherwell.

Duec to work between Edinburgh and Dundee Aberdeen trains will run via Stirling with replacement buses between Edinburgh and Dundee.
East Midlands Trains

Due to major engineering work in Bradway tunnel south of Sheffield every day until Saturday 13 December 2008 trains from and to Leeds and Sheffield will be diverted and retimed using an alternative route via the north end of Sheffield station.
On Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24 December 2008 the last train from London St Pancras to Leeds will depart at 1815, Leeds arrive 2212.
On Christmas Day and Boxing Day Thursday and Friday 25/26 December 2008 no services will operate.
On Saturday 27 December 2008 the first train from Leeds to London St Pancras will depart at 0634, arriving at 1019.
On Monday and Tuesday 29/30 December 2008 the 0525 Leeds - London St Pancras train will depart earlier than advertised and not call at Doncaster.
On New Year's Eve, Wednesday 31 December 2008 the last train from London St Pancras to Leeds will depart at 1955, Leeds arrive 2305.
On New Year's Day, Thursday 1 January 2009 the first train from Leeds to London St Pancras will depart at 0634, arriving at 1019.
On Sundays 18, 25 January 2009 the 1825 London St Pancras - Leeds train will not run and the 1830 London St Pancras - Derby train will be extended to Leeds.

Due to major engineering work in Bradway tunnel south of Sheffield timetables involving routes to and from Sheffield long distance trains from and to the south will be diverted and retimed using an alternative route via the north end of Sheffield station where they will reverse, affecting the timing and ability of local trains to reach Sheffield, some of which may terminate at and start from Meadowhall.

Due to preparatory renewal work between Preston and Blackburn before 1210 the 0845 Leeds - Blackpool North and trains will terminate at Burnley Manchester Road and restart from Preston with a connecting bus between Burnley Manchester Road and Preston. The 0848 York - Blackpool North train will terminate at Blackburn and restart from Preston with a connecting bus between Blackburn and Preston. The 0910 Blackpool North - York train will terminate at Preston and restart from Burnley Manchester Road with a connecting bus between Preston and Burnley Manchester Road. The 1112 Blackpool North - York train will terminate at Preston and restart from Blackburn with a connecting bus between Preston and Blackburn.
Due to work at various locations between Settle Junction and Carlisle Leeds - Carlisle trains will terminate at or start from Hellifield or Long Preston with two connecting buses between Skipton and Carlisle, one calling all stations except Dent and the other express calling only at Settle, Kirkby Stephen, Kirkby Stephen town centre, Appleby and Carlisle. Skipton should be regarded as the bus/ rail interchange point although trains will run beyond. The first express bus from Carlisle will start at 0900 to provide a connection to Leeds at Skipton and the last stopping bus will be extended to Leeds. Passengers to and from Dent should call Northern’s Customer Services Helpline to enable alternative arrangements to be made. Journey times will be extended. Leeds - Morecambe trains will run normally.

Northern’s new Leeds - Nottingham via Barnsley service on it's day of introduction, the first day of the new timetable, will terminate at and start from Chesterfield due to work on the Erewash Valley line. Connecting buses will run between Chesterfield and Nottingham calling at Alfreton and Langley Mill all day, with extended journey times.
Saturday 27 December 2008 to Thursday 1 January 2009 inclusive
Due to signalling work at Carnforth extending from Christmas to New Year Leeds - Morecambe/ Heysham trains will terminate at and start from Bentham with connecting buses between Bentham and Morecambe/ Heysham. Journey times will be extended. For the new Heysham boat connection an additional bus will be provided between Skipton and Heysham, not calling at Carnforth with Carnforth passengers using a shuttle bus to/from Lancaster. The 1019 Leeds - Bentham train will be retimed one hour later than advertised due to the single line working. The 1909 Morecambe - Leeds train on Monday to Wednesday 29-31 December will be replaced by two buses, one connecting into the train starting from Bentham and the other starting from Carnforth at 1856, Morecambe at 1911 calling stations to Giggleswick, then to Settle to connect into the 2100 Ribblehead - Skipton train. On Thursday 1 January 2009 so that the Leeds - Heysham Port trains run normally the 1041 Morecambe - Leeds train will start from Long Preston at 1152. Normal services will resume after 1200 noon on New Year's Day.

Due to a bridge renewal at Pontefract over Christmas extending to Saturday 27 December Dearne Valley Line trains between Sheffield and York will terminate at Moorthorpe with replacement buses between Moorthorpe and York serving Pontefract Baghill on this day. On Sunday due to track remodelling at Church Fenton trains will run between Sheffield and Pontefract Baghill with connecting buses between Pontefract Baghill and York. Journey times will be extended both days.
