A Disabled Person's Pass entitles you to free, off-peak bus travel throughout England.

For West Yorkshire residents, your Disabled Person's Pass also entitles you to half-fare*, off-peak train travel within West Yorkshire. (Half-fare charges explained)

Off-peak times

Off-peak is after 9.30am* Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and bank holidays.

Are you eligible for a Disabled Person's Pass?

You are entitled to a Disabled Person’s Pass if you live in West Yorkshire and you are:

  • Partially sighted.
  • Profoundly or severely deaf.
  • Without speech.
  • Someone who has a disability or injury, which has substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to walk.
  • Someone who does not have arms, or has a long-term loss of the use of both arms.
  • Someone who has a learning disability, that is, a state of arrested or incomplete development of mind, which includes significant impairment of intelligence and social functioning.
  • Someone who has been, or would be, refused a driving license on certain medical grounds.

Companions and hearing dogs

If you are unable to travel conveniently alone, you may be entitled to a special pass entitling a companion to the same concessions when travelling with you within West Yorkshire. Your companions does not need to be the same person for every journey.

Hearing dogs travel for free and there are no restrictions to travelling on the lower deck of buses.

Applying

When applying for the first time you will need to have your application approved by your local Social Services office.


Bus pass exclusions
You cannot use the Disabled Pass on certain special bus services, excursions, tours, private hire vehicles, school and works contract services, and services for which you need to pre-book.

Train travel outside West Yorkshire
If part of your train journey includes points outside West Yorkshire, you must pay the additional fare before you travel. This will normally be the full adult fare for the non-West Yorkshire section of your journey.

If you do not pay for the non-West Yorkshire part of the journey before setting off, you may be charged the full adult fare for the entire journey. Fares may be combined only to and from a station at which your train makes a scheduled stop.
