Yournextbus is Metro's new bus departure times service, it uses GPS satellite technology to track the location of buses in West and South Yorkshire. This means you can find out the scheduled or real time for any bus, at any stop, in the two counties.
You can access bus departure times by sending a text message or by visiting Metro's website. Find out how by choosing 'How Do I Use Yournextbus.'
All Arriva, First, Keighley & District and Stagecoach buses are covered by the tracking system, which means that real time information is available on all services run by these operators in West Yorkshire. Scheduled information is available for all other operators.
How does it work?
Buses are equipped with an onboard computer, GPS navigation system and a radio which allows them to report their position to a central computer. The central computer then estimates how long the bus will take to reach the next bus stops along the route.
Benefits for passengers and bus operators
Yournextbus allows passengers to get timetable and real time information from anywhere: at home, at work, in the pub - and not just the next few departures, the yournextbus system allows you to get information for any time of the day, so if you want to know what time your last bus home is while you're out and about, yournextbus can help.
It's not just passengers that benefit from the yournextbus system, it also allows bus operators to monitor their buses in real time and make any changes required to make services more reliable. Early indications have shown that operators have already been able to use the system to improve the punctuality of some services.
