Improvements are on the way for Halifax Rail Station. Back in April 2007 a working group was formed including representation from Metro, Northern Rail, Network Rail, Calderdale Council, Railway Heritage Trust and Action Halifax to look at ways of improving the station.
Initial improvements included an improved cleaning regime, a deep clean of paintwork and other surfaces and a solution to the rubbish storage problem in the station entrance area.
Network Rail’s long-term programme includes proposals to carry out repairs to the canopy support columns to allow removal of the temporary scaffolding, refurbishment of the platform canopy including glazing, timber works and painting and carry out repairs to the approach road and painting.
In the short-term Northern Rail are looking to carry out works to refurbish entrance signage, provide new station signage throughout, provide additional seating, carry out interim painting works throughout, refurbish the toilet and provide new platform planters.
