Platform Extensions Harrogate Line

Enabling works, funded by Metro, to allow longer trains to run on the Harrogate line were completed in time for the strengthened trains to start running in December 2006.

Metro approved expenditure in 2006 to fund the relevant enabling works at a number of rail stations on the Harrogate Line.  This work included a number of platform extensions and alterations to infrastructure in order that longer trains could run during the peak travel periods.

Network Rail carried out the detailed design work and supervised the delivery of the scheme on Metro's behalf and the necessary works were completed in December 2006, in time for the longer trains to start operating from the start of the 2006/07 timetable.  All of the works took place outside West Yorkshire and Metro worked in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council.  The work was funded by Metro on the basis that the relevant costs would subsequently be reimbursed by North Yorkshire County Council.
