Refurbishment work at Pontefract Bus Station to improve accessibility, comfort and safety for passengers was completed in January.
The main areas of work on the project were the remodelling of the main bus station entrances, new automatic doors at each bus stand, improved passenger information displays, new high quality seating at each bus stand, a refurbished Travel Centre, renovated public toilet areas and new floor, wall and ceiling finishes.
Cllr Graham Phelps, Vice-Chairman of Metro, was pleased with the bus station - adding "The 12,000 plus people who use Pontefract Bus Station every day can now enjoy the high levels of comfort and facilities to which bus passengers are becoming accustomed at Metro bus stations across the county."
Metro is targeting an increase in patronage in line with that at recently refurbished bus stations in Bradford and Keighley.
The bus station was refurbished following detailed consultation with the people of Pontefract and local businesses.
