In 2006 Metro was successful in gaining an offer of match funding from the Department for Transport's Access for All Small Schemes initiative for improved access to the north side of Ilkley station off Railway Road.

 Ilkley station has level access to both platforms from the car park and bus station to the south side of the station and through the former station building which is now part of a retail development, including the station booking office.  However there was no easy access for the considerable number of people living on the north side of the station.  The new access links the steps on Railway Road and the footbridge directly on to platform 2 at the station.
