Metro Deputy Chairman, Cllr Stanley King, travelled on the new 629 bus service with passengers and invited guests on Monday 28 January from Shipley Market Place to Bradford’s Royal Infirmary.
Providing a direct link between Shipley, Heaton and Bradford Royal Infirmary, service 629 operates hourly and includes a loop service along Valley Road, Poplar Road, Crag Road and Briggate.
"This is good news for passengers living in Shipley and Heaton, " said Cllr King. "By listening to what passengers and patient groups have told us, and by working in partnership with bus operator First, Metro has been able to create this new service which will provide a direct link to the hospital which otherwise involves travelling into Bradford city centre and changing.
"Also the 629 will enable Heaton residents to travel into Shipley for shopping and leisure and it connect with the excellent rail service from Shipley rail station providing the opportunity to travel further afield.”
Metro is funding the service, which will run hourly Monday to Saturday daytimes, for one year during which time it will be monitored to see whether there is sufficient demand for it to continue.
