Security alerts

Why unattended luggage can cause everyone problems.

Following the weekend's security alertrs, Metro is reminding passengers to be vigilant, keep a look out for suspicious baggage at bus and rail stations, and to ensure they don't leave their own luggage unattended.

To you, your harmless bag might just contain a bottle of water, a magazine, change of socks and your mobile phone charger but to Metro, the police and everyone else, it is a suspect package, because we don't know what's in there, nor who left it. That means evacuating the area and cancelling bus and train services, causing inconvenience to thousands of people.

Metro’s bus stations across West Yorkshire have 24-hour monitored CCTV coverage and are patrolled by security staff and Police Community Support Officers. Metro also works closely with the West Yorkshire Police and British Transport Police.

Passengers should note that additional security checks are been undertaken at a number of locations including rail stations and Leeds Bradford International Airport.

Bus services 737, 747, 757 and York AirCoach to Leeds Bradford International Airport are very likely to be delayed due to traffic congestion resulting from the heightened security.
