Metro’s Leeds FreeCityBus, introduced in partnership with Leeds City Council is now sponsored by Northern Rail, First TransPennine Express and Park Lane College Leeds, and their logos proudly feature on the service’s buses.
As a seasonal treat, these three sponsors gave hot mince pies to cold FreeCityBus passengers at Leeds Rail Station’s FreeCityBus stop on the morning of Tuesday 4 December.
Cllr Ryk Downes, Metro’s Chairman joined in the seasonal fun to help give away our sponsors’ mince pies to early morning passengers.
“By sponsoring Leeds FreeCityBus, Northern Rail, First TransPennine Express and Park Lane College Leeds are playing a vital role in getting people to where they want to be and combating congestion in the city,” said Cllr Ryk Downes, Chairman of Metro, “And thanks to today’s event they are also warming up passengers on a mid-winter morning.”
Cllr Carter, Leader of Leeds City Council, said, “At this extra-busy time of year, travelling into Leeds by train and then hopping on a FreeCityBus is the ideal way to do your Christmas shopping.”
Vernon Barker, Managing Director of First TransPennine Express said: "It is great that passengers can arrive into Leeds by train and then easily travel around the city using the free bus. Whether going to work or maybe even doing some Christmas shopping the mince pies should be a good start to the day and get people in the festive spirit."
Malcolm Brown, Area Director, Northern Rail said: “We’re delighted to sponsor Leeds FreeCityBus. Our services bring residents and visitors alike to Leeds city centre and the FreeCityBus provides a great opportunity for them to continue their journey to their final destination.”
“We’re really pleased to be involved with the FreeCityBus,” said Rubina Rashid, of Park Lane College Leeds, “it’s not only a great way for the College to get its message across to the people of Leeds, but our students love it too!”.
