It was smiles all round this week when Mrs Sheila Ciesla of Shelf, near Halifax picked up a cheque for £500 after winning the prize draw in Metro’s Smile campaign to help West Yorkshire’s over 60s apply for their new English National Concessionary Bus Passes.
Metro’s Calderdale District Spokesperson Councillor Geoff Wainwright presented the cheque to Mrs Ciesla , the first of four, £500 winners.
“I’m delighted that I’ve won,” said Mrs Ciesla. “I only dropped my application form in two weeks ago so I will definitely be telling my friends to sign up.”
Current Metro Senior, Disabled and Blind Persons Permits will stop being valid from April 2008 when they are replaced by new English National Concessionary Pass, which will entitle holders to free off-peak bus travel throughout England. Metro has set up the Smile publicity campaign to help all West Yorkshire’s 350,000 over-60s disabled and blind people apply for their new Pass in time.
“People can apply for their English National Concessionary Pass at Bus Station Travel Centres and Post offices throughout the county,” explained Councillor Wainwright.
“We’re asking anyone who might not be eligible for a pass themselves but has a relative friend or neighbour who would be, to encourage them to go along and apply today,” he added.
“They might even win £500 like Mrs Ciesla!”
Metro leaflets containing all this information have been sent to Bus Station Travel Centres, Post Offices and other outlets such as Libraries and details of how to apply can also be found on this site .
