Tests were successfully carried out last week around the city centre route of the new Wakefield FreeCityBus in preparation for the service’s introduction on Monday 23 April.
Wakefield District Spokesperson for Metro Cllr Graham Phelps and Deputy Leader of Wakefield Council Cllr Philip Dobson, accompanied by Wakefield PTA members Cllr Keith Rhodes and Cllr Mike Walker joined the bus at the city’s Westgate Station to board for the first trip round the route.
“Last Thursday’s test involved taking a bus around the whole route to iron out any access issues and to ensure the buses can pull up to stops for easy boarding,” said a Metro spokesman.
“No problems were encountered and we are confident that the service’s introduction on Monday 23 April will run smoothly.”
Prior to the launch of Wakefield FreeCityBus, Metro will be holding a breakfast briefing for the city’s business community, and Metro representatives will also be out and about in the city centre promoting the service.
