Chinese treasures to be found in Leeds

Those with a taste for Far Eastern culture are advised to head to Lotherton Hall this summer to check out the Chinese Treasures display.

Collectors from all over the city will be heading to the estate at Aberford to show off their collections of 'fashion and furnishings', 'paintings and print' as well as 'pots and precious things'.

The intriguing and wide-ranging displays will take place across the Oriental Gallery and Costume Gallery.

According to Leeds Council: "The Leeds Chinese community has been involved with selecting the items for display, and helping with their interpretation."

"Members of the local community, and local collectors and businesses, are lending to the exhibition to ensure that the topics are illustrated with contemporary material as well as the older favourites."

The displays will run until the end of the year and are part of the China in Yorkshire museum and arts festival held to mark Beijing's hosting of the 2008 Olympics.

You can use Metro's Journey Planner to find out how to get to Leeds by public transport.
