Fame The Musical will be hitting the stage at the Drama Studio in Sheffield on Sunday 18 May.

Students from the Sheffield University Performance Arts society will be performing the acclaimed musical, which is set in a New York stage school.

Originally a hit film in 1980 by Alan Parker, the live musical has been a mainstay in the West End almost ever since, winning two Laurence Oliver awards.

The musical does differ slightly from the film of the same name, although the general premise is the same. When a group of ambitious but very different college freshmen audition for a coveted place at stage school, the only thing they have in common are their dreams of finding fame.

However, after facing obstacles together, they overcome their differences to become close friends.

This is a high energy musical with a lot of group dances, 1980's fashions and the stand-out song Fame.

For those who live too far from London to see the West End show, this is the perfect way to see it at home in West Yorkshire.

You can use Metro's Journey Planner to find out how to get to Sheffield by public transport.
