A collection of artwork reflecting the political turmoil of 1980s Britain is now on display at the Leeds art gallery.

State of the Nation: Art and Politics in Britain in the 1980s illustrates the concerns artists felt over the Falklands war, an economy in recession and Thatcherism nearly 20 years ago.

Artists having their paintings and sculptures showcased include Tony Cragg, Bill Woodrow, Stephen Willats, Ken Currie and Steven Campbell.

Tony Cragg uses man-made materials including disposed household goods and construction matter to construct his sculptures. He won the Turner Prize in 1988.

Stephen Willats has used information theory and semiotics to create his multimedia projects. His work responds to what he views as antiserendipity in the history of art. His projects have been displayed everywhere from tennis clubs to housing estates.
