statutory free travel students and other home-to-school
Linking trips reduces the number of individual
Co-operation from all schools within cluster is
needed, to synchronise school timings to complement the dedicated
school bus route.
During the tendering process for the Mybus scheme,
Metro separated the scheme into individual school lots, thus
allowing smaller operators to bid for small schemes involving two
or three buses. Larger operators could bid on multiple lots.
Four main costs were sought in the tendering
Tenders were sought on both a gross and net cost
basis (i.e. with the operators either taking a fixed price or
retaining revenue and associated risk). The majority of tender
awards, however, were on a gross cost basis as these provided
better value for money.
As the level of supervision and performance will need to be
higher for dedicated school bus operations, it is important to
build these requirements into the contract.
