School bus monitors are pupils selected by the school who agree to be the eyes and ears on the school buses. Their role is to report unacceptable behaviour to the school.
School bus monitors provide information to their school that can be used to deal with situations before they get out of hand. Monitors also serve as a deterrent to unruly and dangerous behaviour.
If you are frustrated by frequently reacting to problems on the school buses and are looking for a proactive but simple solution, School Bus Monitors schemes could be the answer.
Provided the scheme is carefully thought out and implemented you will see a remarkable improvement in behaviour. In addition, school bus monitors schemes present an opportunity for selected pupils to develop valuable skills and gain experience in holding a position of responsibility. They are rewarded for their efforts, usually by gaining free travel on the school journey.
School bus monitors are a tool used by some schools participating in the SAFEMark Awards scheme. However, monitors schemes can also run independently from the Awards Scheme and are ideal for those schools that wish to improve standards on the school buses, but are not currently in a position to commit the time and effort needed for the full SAFEMark Award.
