Rural Transport and Accessibility Officer

Responsible for the West Yorkshire Rural Transport Partnership (WYRTP) and delivery of the West Yorkshire Rural Transport Programme.

A WYRTP Progress Report and Action Plan has been compiled. The Action Plan lists all the transport issues which have been identified by consultation through the West Yorkshire Rural Transport Partnership. Appendix B of the report, the West Yorkshire Rural Transport Map, shows those areas which qualify for rural transport funding.

West Yorkshire Rural Transport Partnership Delegated Fund

The Delegated Fund provides capital or revenue funding for small scale rural transport / accessibility projects throughout West Yorkshire.  The grant is intended to solve local transport problems and applications are particularly encouraged from community groups.

The funding package amounts to £130,000 from Yorkshire Forward over the three years 2006-2009. The fund is split into £80,000 capital and £50,000 revenue.

The Delegated Fund could be used for a range of small scale rural transport interventions including:

  • Publicising a scheme
  • Local transport surveys to address peoples needs
  • The cost of hiring a minibus
  • Training of staff and volunteers
  • Office equipment for community transport operators
  • Transport equipment – such as wheelchairs, swivel seats, wheelchair lifts etc
  • Small vehicles – such as Wheels 2 Work mopeds, bicycles, Shopmobility Scooters
  • Input to larger capital purchases such as minibuses / buses

Full guidelines and application forms can be obtained from Clare Davies on 0113 251 7413.

West Yorkshire Rural Interchange / Infrastructure Project

This project involves investment in rural interchanges and public transport infrastructure to improve accessibility for people wishing to access key services. There is £150,000 available over a three year period.

Members of the West Yorkshire Rural Transport Partnership have been asked to identify potential rural sites which require investment and Metro has produced a programme of work based upon research.

West Yorkshire Rural Roadshow Project

The Rural Roadshow Project aims to take vital services into rural areas to reduce the need for people to travel.

9 individual mobile service projects are being supported during 2007/8. Grants have been awarded for a variety of things including purchasing new vehicles, purchasing essential equipment, research and publicity etc.

Research for this project has identified a large number of existing mobile service providers throughout West Yorkshire, notably mobile libraries, mobile youth units and information buses. All operators have been invited to join a West Yorkshire Mobile Service Network. For further details about the network please contact Clare Davies on 0113 251 7413.
