Accessible bus services

Many bus routes in West Yorkshire are operated with low-floor, easy-access buses. With more and more bus stops featuring raised kerbing too, it’s never been easier to travel!

Our handy guide called Easy Access in West Yorkshire, which you can download as a pdf file below, shows an at-glance summary of services which offer easy access vehicles.

The guide does not replace any of our fully detailed timetables, which should be consulted to determine actual journey times.

The following guidelines for wheelchair users, should help to make your journey comfortable, safe and enjoyable:

  • Look for the wheelchair symbol on the side of the bus.
  • When the bus arrives at the stop, the driver will lower the bus and/or lower the ramp to pavement level.
  • Once on the bus, reverse into the dedicated area for wheelchairs so you are facing the back of the bus.
  • Remember to apply the handbrake.
  • If you have any difficulties, please ask the driver for assistance.

If you are a buggy user and are travelling on a low floor bus, the disability discrimination act gives wheelchair users priority over buggies in the designated wheelchair space - providing there is sufficient space for you to fold your buggy and sit with your child elsewhere on the vehicle.

Please note that even though the services listed in the guide are scheduled for an accessible vehicle, they cannot always be guaranteed by the operator of the service.
