Metro and Bradford Council will be launching a new, MetroConnect Bradford FreeCityBus in the autumn after funding for a six-month trial was approved by the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Authority and Bradford Council's Executive.
Bradford FreeCityBus service will connect key locations around the city centre including Bradford Interchange, Forster Square Station, Forster Square Retail Park, Kirkgate Shopping Centre, the Oastler Centre, the National Media Museum and Library and the University of Bradford and Bradford College. Buses are expected to run every ten minutes from 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday to Friday and 8:00am to 5:30pm on Saturdays.
During the trial period, numbers of people using the service will be monitored to assess its impact on traffic levels and the accessibility benefits it provides. A decision will then be taken on whether the service will be made permanent.
Similar services in Leeds, Huddersfield and Wakefield have proved to be hugely popular and the University of Bradford and Bradford College were both quick to snap up the opportunity to be a sponsor for the new service, others interested in sponsorship opportunities should contact philip.joyce@wypte.gov.uk
